2014 will be a crucial year for payroll in four key areas. The IRS and Social Security Administration are cracking down on reconciliation errors when submitting the Forms W-2. They must match what has been submitted on the Forms 941 or fines will be issued. Key area number one will help ensure you are reconciled not just at year end but at each quarter end. But it isn't just Forms W-2 that are being scrutinized by the IRS it is also fringe benefits and all tax practices. And the IRS isn't the only game in town when it comes to audits-the Department of Labor and the states have a stake in that game as well. And all of them are increasing audits to find discrepancy in payroll practices. This is where our key practice number 2-self audits will assist you in finding those "discrepancies" before "they" do.
Again in 2014 there is pressure to increase efficiency and decrease costs, perhaps even more than in previous years.
