Open Payments is a federal program under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) that collects certain information relating to payments and other items of value provided to physicians from drug and device companies. Examples include: speaking fees, gifts, meals, and covering the cost of travel expenses to name a few. The Open Payments program also includes information on ownership interests a physician may have in a drug or device company.
